VALLIANEIO MEGARON – NATIONAL LIBRARY OF GREECE

VALLIANEIO MEGARON – NATIONAL LIBRARY OF GREECE

The National Library of Greece is housed in the Vallianeio Megaron, a landmark neoclassical building that forms part of the so-called “Athenian Trilogy” on Panepistimiou Street. The building was designed in 1888 by the Danish architect Theophil Hansen and completed in 1903. Its monumental composition, defined by the distinctive double marble staircase and imposing façade, is considered one of the most important examples of neoclassical architecture in Athens.
