CALLICOUNIS CRAFT DISTILLERY

CALLICOUNIS CRAFT DISTILLERY

MADE IN KALAMATA

In 1850, G. Kallikounis founded the first steam-powered distillery in Kalamata, equipped with the best machinery of the time. With studies in chemistry in Trieste, he combined a vast knowledge of aromatic plants, fruits, and roots from the rich nature of Southern Greece with imagination to create a wide range of liqueurs and spirits with unprecedented wonderful flavors and delicate aromas. The produced distillates and extracts form the aromatic and flavorful heart of various beverages (aperitifs, digestives, bitters, liqueurs) produced by the distillery. In 1859, the company’s products began their significant journey into international markets and major exhibitions, and by 1905, its reputation was so great that King George I visited the company’s factory and awarded N. Kallikounis the Silver Cross of the Order of the Redeemer for his contributions to Greek industry.
The distillery’s headquarters have been located in the neoclassical Kallikounis building in Kalamata since 1910.
