ATHENS CITY MUSEUM

ATHENS CITY MUSEUM

The museum is housed in two historic buildings. The first is the neoclassical residence of Chian banker Stamatis Dekozis-Vouros, also known as the “Old Palace,” as it served as the first seat of power for the royal couple. It was designed between 1833 and 1834 by G. Lueders and J. Hoffman. The second building was designed in 1859 by G. Metaxas and later modified in 1916 by A. Helmis. The museum was founded in 1973 and opened to the public in 1980.
